Ashlee VanDenTop Wins Clash of Conference 800

Sedro-Woolley - The Clash of Conferences is not your typical invite. Competitors from the Northwest Conference and League became teammates for the day and would go up against competitors from the WESCO Conference at Sedro Woolley High School last night.


Whatcom County's lone team from the Northwest Conference was the Meridian boy's and girl's teams. They teamed up with Burlington-Edison, Sedro-Woolley, and LaConner.


Senior Ashlee VanDenTop from the Lady Trojans won her first 800 race of the spring campaign with a time of 2:30.37, beating Mount Vernon's Maria Rivera-Valles by a second. Meridian's McKenna Holz placed 7th with a time of 2:39.89, a season best.


The girl's 1600 was won by Mount Vernon's Abigail Cowan in 5:37.37. The Trojan's top performers in this race were Kayley Betancourt (6:14.48, personal best) and Emily Schneider (6:18.22).


Moving to the boy's meet, the Meridian boy's did not have a 1st place finish in the 800 or 1600, but had 3 top 10 finishers in the 1600 race.


Gregory Panther of Marysville Getchell won the 1600 with a time of 4:36.03. Junior Jaskaran Dhatt led the Trojans with a fourth place finish and personal best time of 4:39.96. Senior Kenny Barnes ran 4:43.04 to place 6th and junior Nathan Schneider ran a personal best 4:57.77 to place 8th.


Stanwood's Jason Khoury ran 2:03.34 to take the 800 win. Meridian's top boy's were Oscar Lee (2:31.38, personal best) and Leo Mullen (2:38.05).


Meridian's next meet will be at Lynden Christian High School on April 11th against Mount Baker, Nooksack Valley, and LC.
