Bellingham,WA - Bellingham senior Annika Reiss highlights the Northwest Conference "City Meet" with her incredible time in the 3,200 to start the beginning of the season at Civic Stadium versus Squalicum and Sehome yesterday, March 13.

The Northern Arizona University commit dealt with leg injuries all last spring and showed signs she is fully healthy now at the start of her senior campaign.

Reiss ran 10:51 for a season best 3,200 time, a second behind her personal best which she set back in her sophomore year.

Reiss was the runner-up at the 2A state cross meet last fall and is a clear favorite to win 2A 3,200 state crown, as well as the 1,600.

Sehome's Cameron Hodges won the 800 and 1,600 races running 2:37.8 and 5:33.57.

It took a comeback for Hodges to win the 1,600 trailing her teammate Rose Kirker, who finished second in 5:38.85.

With one lap to go, Hodges eventually took the lead on the homestretch for her first of hopefully many wins this season.

Squalicum's Hailey Askew ran a personal best 11:42.16 in the 3,200 to finish in second. She also ran a personal best in the 1,600 running 5:53.72.

Also placing well from Squalicum was freshmen duo Grace Doud and Laura Halsell as they went third and fourth in the 1,600 and ran 5:44.4 and 5:50.1. Doud also ran the 3,200 placing third with a personal best of 11:44.01.

Bellingham's Mazy Wright and Squalicum's Maria Salomon finished second and third in the 800 running personal best times of 2:37.84 and 2:38.62.

In the boy's meet, Jacob Alexander of Sehome won the 800 and 3,200 races in season best marks of 2:09.8 and 10:44.73.

The junior from Sehome also made a comeback himself in the 800 after trailing the first lap of the race.

Alexander closed in the last 200 meters passing two runners to take the win.

Squalicum's Joe Brodeur ran 4:53.11 to win the 1,600 despite a slow start in the first two laps of the race.

Brodeur opened up his 800 split in the 1,600 at 2:36, but began surging away from the competition with 600 meters to go. He would close his final 800 in 2:17 to take the win.

Brodeur also finished second in the 3,200 running a personal best 10:48.18.

Squalicum's Miles Bartlett and Ben Latta both placed second in their respective races.

Both boys would run personal bests with Bartlett running 2:13.19 in the 800 and Latta running 5:02.08 in the 1,600.

Bellingham was led by third places finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200 from John Johnson and Caleb Schmotzer. Johnson ran 5:05.37 and Schmotzer ran 10:54.21, which are both season bests.

Bellingham and Sehome will meet each other again next week, March 22, at the Bedlington Twilight Invite in Lynden and Squalicum will travel to Arlington High School, March 23, for the Chuck Randall Relays.
