Day 2 Recap of 2A Sub-Districts

Bellingham - Whatcom County 2A schools competed yesterday in the 800 and 3200 finals at the 2A Sub-District Meet at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.


Sehome's Lucas Cunningham won his 2nd district title in 2 days winning the boy's 800 final in 2:00.77. Cunningham trailed the entire race behind Anacortes's Logan Hanrahan till the final 100 meters when Cunningham went out in lane 2 and beat Hanrahan to the line.


Bellingham's Cade Brown cruised through a 5:01 first mile, and then hit 4:44 for his 2nd as the defending 2A Cross Country State Championship won the 3200 meter final in a time of 9:45.28. Other sub 10 minute 2 milers were Sehome's Tadeusz Pforte (9:57.67) and Bellingham's Ty Veldhuisen (9:58.27).


In the girl's meet, Anacortes Heather Hanson won the 800 meter final in a season best time of 2:15.05. Sehome's Cameron Hodges placed 2nd with a personal best time of 2:16.08.


Kristen Garcia of Sedro-Woolley also won her 2nd district event winning the 3200 race in a time of 11:08.38, a personal best. Bellingham's Annika Reiss went on to go 2nd in the race as she ran 11:27.66.


Whatcom County 2A schools return to postseason action next week at Lakewood High School on Wednesday and Friday for the 2A District meet.
