San Tan Valley, AZ - Eastside Catholic's Kate Jendrezak and Anthony Smith led the way for Washington track and field athletes with wins in the 400-meter last night at the Desert Dream Last Hurrah Invite.
Jendrezak tallied her invite win total to two after winning the 200-meter on Friday night by running a new personal best time in the 400-meter in 54.48 seconds, over three seconds faster than the second place finisher.
The UCLA commit now holds the Eastside Catholic school record in both the 200 and 400-meter races after competing this weekend.
Smith redeemed himself from Friday's two close losses in the 100 and 200-meter races taking down the 400-meter in a new personal best winning time of 48.06 seconds.
Gavin Schurr, who had beat Smith in the 100 and 200-meter, was third in the 400 running a personal best time of 49.08 seconds.
Bellarmine Prep's Ella Borsheim and Issaquah's Julia David-Smith faced off in a classic 3,200-meter race with Borsheim placing higher at 3rd running a 31 second personal best time of 10:29.49.
This would be the first time ever they have raced each other in this event and their first race on the track against each other since the 2019 4A state meet in the 1,600-meter when David-Smith, who was fourth in the 3,200 running 10:31.68 last night, won in a time of 4:50.35.
Borsheim was sixth in the mile on Friday in 4:50.
Abbi Vanderkooi took first running in a blistering time of 10:02.56, a new sophomore record for the state of Michigan and a 31 second improvement.
Sehome's Zack Munson completed his first high school track and field meet with an eighth place finish in the 3,200-meter running 9:23.34 completing a solid double for the weekend with a 4:28 1,600-meter time from Friday.
Eisenhower's Jonas Price capped off his amazing high school career with a fifth place finish in the pro mile running a two-second personal best time of 4:10.57.
Price, who will run for Oklahoma State University next fall, was fourth in the 1,600-meter and 3rd in the 3,200-meter at last year's 4A state track meet.
Eisenhower's Kara Mickelson was eighth in the 800-meter with a four-second personal best time 2:21.94. Mickelson also ran in the 200-meter on Friday and was 15th running 27.64 seconds.
