A member of three Hall of Fames in the state of Washington, Jim Freeman is without doubt one of the greatest coaches and runners in Whatcom County history.
-Ferndale High School graduate.
-Ran for Western Washington University in the 1960's.
-Washington State Coaches Association Hall of Fame for cross country (1998).
-Washington State Coaches Association Hall of Fame for track (1999).
-Western Washington University Athletic Hall of Fame for cross and track (2012).
-During his time at WWU, won the two mile at the Evergreen Conference Championships as a freshman and was the three-mile champion at the NAIA District 1 Championships as a sophomore.
-Set the three mile school record as a junior at WWU.
-Placed 18th at the Boston Marathon in 1965.
-Won the first of two Chuckanut Foot Races in 1968.
-Hired at Mount Baker High School in 1970 as a mathematics and science teacher, where he taught for 28 years.
-Coached boys and girls cross country and track and girls basketball at MBHS.
-Between girls and boys cross country, Freeman's teams won a total of 36 league titles, 14 district titles, and 5 state championships.
-A combined 230-42 dual meet record between girls and boys. His boys also had a 60 dual meet win streak.
-As a track coach, he was the boys head man for 24 years and the girls for 4 years.
-Captured 3 state titles and coached 20 individual state champions in track.
-19 year career of coaching girls basketball, where he made 10 state tournament appearances, had a 277-184 coaching record, and coached the 1985 Gatorade National Player of the Year, Susan Anderson.
