Football Rivals Meet On The Track In a Dual

Lynden - When you hear Lynden versus Ferndale, first things come to your mind is a rivalry football game. Well, yesterday at Lynden High School there was no football game, but a dual track meet instead as classic Northwest Conference foes met on Lynden's green track.

The boy's 1600 top 4 spots were all Lions yesterday as senior Roscoe Perry led the way for Lynden running a personal best time of 4:47.14. Not to far behind Perry in 2nd was teammates Isaiah Ellis finishing in 4:48.24. Other top finishers from Lynden were Carson VanCleve (3rd) and TJ VanderYacht (4th).

The Golden Eagles were led by junior Aaron Vadnais as he ran a season best 5:33.64.

The girl's 1600 was also won by a Lynden Lion. Freshman Frances Perry ran a personal best time 6:33.41, inching out Ferndale freshman Brianna Hanson by 50 tenths of a second.

We wouldn't see a rematch from last Fridays 800 race between Ferndale's Landon Sturdevant and Lynden's Nick Kildall, but the Lions would take this one as VanderYacht ran 2:18.29 to take the win by seven seconds. Ferndale freshman Josiah Bushnell led Ferndale with a personal best time of 2:29.46.

Only two girls would be featured in the girls 800, but it would be all Ferndale as freshman Jaclyn Denham and senior Alexandra McBeath took the top 2 spots, and only 2 spots, in this race. Denham ran 2:29.8, followed by her teammate McBeath running 2:30.53

With no surprise, freshman phenom Landon Sturdevant won yet another race, this time in the 3200. Sturdevant ran this event for the very first time in high school career in a time of 10:25.33. Sturdevant has now won 4 individual races in his freshman campaign.

Lynden's top finisher was senior Perry as he ran 10:33.9.

Ferndale's Elisa Herter would be the only competitor in the girls 3200 yesterday and went on to win in 13:13.82, a personal best time for her.

Both Lynden and Ferndale will return to the track on April 7th for the annual Birger Solberg Invite hosted by Sehome at Civic Stadium.
