Interviews with The Runner WA: WCC's Head XC Coach Jay Sloane

Starting next fall for the 2020-2021 school year at Whatcom Community College, the Orcas will have a new sports program with cross country joining.

After his first season being at Whatcom, Athletic Director Danny Day went on to hire Jay Sloane as the head coach of the newly formed cross country team.

Sloane was previously coaching at Nooksack Valley High School in Everson, Washington, where he coached one individual state champion and took six teams to the 1A state cross championships.

Prior to taking a coaching position at Nooksack Valley, Sloane was at Mount Baker High School in Deming, Washington for 15 years and also coached a few individual state champions and was part of the three year run where the Mountaineer girl's won three consecutive 2A state cross country team championships.

Sloane joined Keenan Gray on Zoom Chat today for another edition of Interviews with The Runner WA to discuss what the expectations and goals are for Whatcom's cross country program, while also looking back on his high school coaching days.
