Meridian and LC Prep For Big Invite on Friday

Anacortes- The Meridian and Lynden Christian track teams traveled down to Fidalgo Island for a Northwest Conference meet against the Anacortes Seahawks last night in preparation for their upcoming invite on Friday.


LC's senior duo both ran very well in the 1600 with Eric Steiger taking the win in a season best 4:39.24 and Brooks DeWaard placed 3rd in 4:47.05. The Trojans had 4 top 10 finishes in the race. Leading the way for the Meridian boy's was senior Kenny Barnes running 5:04.69.


Elsewhere on the boys side, an 800 debut for LC's sophomore John DenHartog went according to plan as he placed 2nd in 2:10.66. The winner of the race came from Anacortes as sophomore Alec Rankin ran 2:08.24.


The 3200 race was all Meridian as the first four spots were taken up by a Trojan. Junior Abbas Theophilus won the race with a time of 10:49.34


Going to the girls meet, Meridian standout Ashlee Van Den Top made her season debut in the 800, 1600, and 3200. Van Den Top placed 6th in the first two races and 3rd in the 3200. Other Meridian standouts were junior McKenna Holz in the 800 and 1600.


The Anacortes girls distance team swept all three of the distance races. Senior Heather Hanson won the 800 (2:20.97) and 3200 (13:17.22), and senior Sophia Riccardi won the 1600 (5:59.15).


LC's top girl performers in each race were senior Katie Dougan in the 800 (2:53.99), senior Ashley Lingbloom in the 1600 (6:18.82), and sophomore Brianna Veenstra in the 3200 (14:11.16)
