Cashmere - Of all the Meridian Trojan runners you hear about in Whatcom County, this one in particular isn't one you necessarily recognize when you see his name.
Jensen Ellars, a junior at Meridian, won his 2nd 800 race of the year at the Cashmere Invite in Cashmere, Washington, running a personal best time of 2:03.93. Ellars personal best time before this race was a 2:09.69, which he ran at a local dual meet in Laurel. He is the first Meridian Trojan junior to run faster than 2:05 since Kent Zander did it in 2015.
In other events, Abbas Theophilus and Jaskaran Dhatt finished 2nd and 3rd in the 1500 running 4:24.34 and 4:25.22. Both are personal best marks. With both of those times, Theophilus and Dhatt pass Mark Hardin for fastest time in the 1500 when Hardin ran 4:34 in 2007.
Nathan Schneider and Kenny Barnes placed 3rd and 4th in the 3000 with times of 9:26.81 and 9:35.71.
In the girl's meet, senior Ashlee Van Den Top placed 6th in the 800. She ran a season best time of 2:29.6. She was also Meridian's top placer for lady Trojans.
McKenna Holz ran the 1500 in 5:36.61 placing 11th and Kayley Bentancourt ran the 3000 in 12:16.63, a personal best for her.
