Everson- Some could argue this meet should have been dominated by the Sehome Mariners, but that was not the case as all three distance events were won by a boy in a purple jersey as the Pioneers upset the Sehome Mariners at Nooksack Valley yesterday.
In the first distance race of the day, Nooksack sophomore Logan Clabaugh pulled out a narrow 1600 win over Blaine's Malachi Crump beating him out by .39 tenths of a second. Clabaugh trailed behind the entire race until the very end where he would eventually win in a time of 5:18.34. Sehome's top finisher was freshman Josh Frazier ran a personal best time of 5:20.52, finishing fifth.
Following the boy's 1600, defending 1A girls state cross country state champion Alyce Harlan of Nooksack made her season debut by winning the 1600 in 5:57. It would be Harlan's first track win since winning the 3200 last year on May 3rd at Blaine High School. Teammate Brooke DeBeeld finished behind her teammate in 2nd, and Sehome's Jonquil Loeffelholz finished in 3rd.
Making his 800 debut, Nooksack freshman Josh Steele impress multiple coaches running a time of 2:12.05. Last week at LC, Steele had already made a case for himself cranking out a 54 second open 400, but the freshman showed yesterday he can do more than run really fast.
Steele ran very consistent throughout the race coming through laps in 66 both times. Clabaugh followed Steele in 2nd with a time of 2:15.79, 2 seconds off his personal best. Trevor Freeland of Blaine rounded up the top 3 with a time of 2:18.86.
Shockingly in the girl's 800, no Pioneer lady pulled a victory as Sehome's Josie Marriner won in a personal best time of 2:34.39. Finishing not to far behind Sehome's Marriner was, you guessed it, Nooksack's Harlan with a 2nd place time of 2:39.30.

The clouds were just rolling in while the meet was wrapping up, but the boys and girls 3200 avoided the rain drops and ran on with sunshine and clear skies.
On the boy's side, it was all Nooksack as all 3 top spots were captured by a Pioneer. Leading the way was enior Arlin Holder running a 11:08.26 1st place time, followed by Clabaugh in 2nd (11:47.35), and senior Nate Snow in 3rd (11:51.13).
Harlan would win the girls 3200 in dominating fashion beating two Sehome girls in 12:49.32.
Nooksack, Blaine, and Sehome will return to action tomorrow night in Lynden at the Bedlington Twilight Invite starting at 3:30.
