PASCO - Athletes remember what was a cold and miserable Pasco Invitational last season that featured unique weather, containing sideways rain, hail and a bit of snow with 20 mile per hour winds.

When returning teams looked at this last weekend's weather report, things were starting to look up for one of Washington's longest running meets in 2023, putting last year's treacherous meet aside.

Athletes, like Mead's Dominick Corley and Walla Walla's Jake Hisaw, were ready to bring better results.

Corley and Hisaw produced state-leading times in their respective events at the 60th annual Pasco Invitational, with Corley running the boys 100 meter in a personal best time of 10.45 seconds and Hisaw running the boys 300 hurdles in a personal best 38.79 on Saturday at Edgar Brown Memorial Stadium in Pasco.

Corley opened up in the preliminary section with a 10.6 effort before advancing to the afternoon's final, where he would match up with other sprint standouts in Richland's Lex Luthor, Mt. Si's Jacob Hall and West Valley-Yakima's Benjamin Pupplo.

Corley had a much better block start in the final and was able to withstand his competitors, winning by .31 tenths of a second over Pupplo in 10.76 for second.

“I was really excited,” Corley said. “It was hot, some good competition. I was like, ‘This is the meet to throw down.’”

Hall was third in 10.76, while Southridge's Lucien Cone finished fourth in 10.82 and Luther was fifth in 10.85.

Zoe Gonzales ran a season best 12.40 to win the girls 100 final, beating Kamiakin's Adelyn Mitchell (12.44, 2nd) and Richland's Naly Khamlue-Pratt (12.50, 3rd).

Hisaw went wire-to-wire with Sandpoint ID's Rusty Lee in the faster section of the 300 hurdle final, winning by a margin of 38.79-39.01.

Hisaw, a University of Idaho signee, lowered his personal best time by almost two seconds from his season opener when he ran 40.40 at the Big 5 Invite on his home track in Walla Walla.

"Now that I know I can run this fast and I kind of know where I should be at, it's going to make training a lot easier and racing a lot easier," Hisaw said.

Ellensburg's Joshua Boast produced a personal best time with a 40.06 effort to finish third. Kennewick's Jackson Burns was fifth in a personal best 40.72, and earlier finished second in the 110 hurdles, running 14.59.

Elloise Bolles of Wenatchee won the girls 300 hurdles in 47.91, surging past Lewiston ID's Damaris Stuffle in 48.33 for second. Kamiakin's Louesa Gledhill and Hannah Kennell finished fourth and fifth, respectively, running lifetime best times of 48.86 and 49.25.

Both Corley and Hisaw are set to compete next weekend at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon's campus for the Oregon Relays.
