Belfair, WA - In a 2A Olympic League tri-meet hosted by North Mason High School, Port Angeles' Lauren Larson and her teammates collected big points for their team in the 800 and 1,600 yesterday, March 19, against the Bulldogs and the Port Townsend Redhawks.
Larson, a fourth place finisher at the 2A state cross meet last fall, ran personal best times of 2:29.52 and 5:28.01 in her races to score 10 points for the Roughriders. She also improves her undefeated conference record to 4-0.
Port Angeles teammates Kathryn Guttormsen and Maxine Waddell also finished in the top three in their respective races. Guttormsen placed second in the 1,600 (6:17.82) and third in the 800 (2:47.77), while Waddell was third in the 1,600 (6:48.86).
A total of six girls were in the 800 race, and the Roughriders claimed five of those placings with three total personal best times.
With Larson's 10 points, the Roughriders totaled 18 points between the 800 and 1,600 races.
Meet host North Mason saw their only distance runner in Savannah Knutson win the 3,200 in a time of 13:41.72.
On the boy's side, North Mason's Noah Hasselblad "ran" away from his competition putting in personal best work in the 1,600 and 3,200 races running 4:54.08 and 10:24.56.
Nathan Cantrell of Port Townsend preps for this week's Bedlington Twilight Invite 1,600 race running a personal best in the 800 of 2:06.66 to win. He also placed third in the 3,200 running 10:43.35.
Port Angeles' Naaman McGuffey finished third in the 800 and second in the 1,600 with personal best times of 2:18.39 and 5:17.73.
Other top finishers were North Mason's Ryan Crookshank in the 800 (2nd, 2:12.35) and Port Angeles' Nathan Marple in the 1,600 (3rd, 5:35.19).
Both Port Townsend and North Mason will be competing this Friday, March 22, at Lynden High School in the Bedlington Twilight Invite, and Port Angeles will host a meet next week, March 28.
