Rainier Invite Recap

Rainier, WA - Great races went down yesterday, March 16, at Rainier High School in the Rainier "Icebreaker" Invitational showcasing some of the top distance runners in the boy's and girl's meets for their respective classifications.


Rosalie Fish of the Muckleshoot Tribal highlights the girl's meet winning the 800 and 3,200 meter races. Fish beat her opponents by a combine total time of 31 seconds between the two.


She ran 2:25.47 for a personal best time in the 800 and 11:46.97 in the 3,200.


Life Christian's Gabby Martin made her high school track and field debut winning the 1,600 in 5:38.47. She also placed third in the 3,200 running 12:24.49.


Martin, who is only a freshman, was the runner-up at the 1B/2B state cross meet last fall with a time of 19:16.2.


Rainier's Elaina Hansen was second in the 1,600 (5:46.25) and the 3,200 (12:09.5) and Selena Niemi was third in the 800 (2:36.84) and the 1,600 (5:54.51).


Madi Oliva from Eisenhower ran 2:33.51 to finish in second in the 800.


On the boy's side, Eisenhower's Jonas Price won the 800 with a time of 2:02.76.


Price, the son of running great and Eisenhower track and cross country coach, Robert Price, was the runner-up at the 4A state cross country meet last fall where he ran 15:17.1.


Eisenhower had another top three finisher in the 800 with Nathan Valenzuela running 2:06.59.


Alfonso Cuevo ran 4:37.18 to win by .74 tenths of a second in the 1,600 over Pope John Paul II's Kobe Deutscher (4:37.92) for Eisenhower's second first place finisher.


Deutscher had another second place finish in the 800 where he ran 2:05.58.


Kobe's older brother, Caden Deutscher, won by 9 seconds in the 3,200 in 10:40.62 beating White River's Joel Slominski (10:49.61).


Caden placed second overall at the 1B state track meet last season in the 3,200 running a personal best of 10:29.48.


Sa-Hali's Parker Lehmann placed third in the 1,600 (4:49.12) and Life Christian's placed third in the 3,200 (11:06.61) to round up the top finishers in those races. Both times are personal best for these runners.
