Smith, Ballard Beavers "Chomp" Competition in Tri-Meet

Seattle, WA - Samantha Smith and the Ballard boy's and girl's distance teams collected four wins yesterday, April 4, in a Metro League tri-meet versus O'Dea, Holy Names, and Nathan Hale.

Smith won two races in the girl's meet as she ran 5:39.38 in the 1,600 meter race, and then later ran a personal best 2:31.32 in the 800 meter race.


Smith has now won five races on the year including two of them in the 1,600.


The Ballard girl's swept the top three spots in the 1,600, but had a total of nine girls in the top 10.


The athletes were Jill Philbin (2nd, 5:45.54), Abby MacDonald (3rd, 5:45.76), Sophia Jaqua (4th, 5:48.48), Ruby Siehl (5th, 5:57.65), Meghan Sheldrake (6th, 5:59), Dori Buttleman (8th, 6:07.15), Katie Mills (9th, 6:18.72), and Emma Bauer (10th, 6:21.54).


Phil and MacDonald were also top placers in the 800 as they ran 2:38.72 and 2:38.97 for third and fourth place.


In the girl's 3,200, Holy Names went one through five with Maeve Hoffman taking the top spot in a personal best time of 11:47.95.


Sarah Mirkin (11:49.65), Lucy Klebeck (11:52.3), Emma Velling (11:55.42), and Lucy Martinez (12:58.43) were second through fifth in this order.


Nathan Hale's Ruby Settle ran a personal best 2:37.96 placing second in the 800.


On the boy's side, Ballard's Kai Vickers defeated O'Dea's Evan Oakes, who ran 4:34.9, by two seconds in the 1,600 running a season best 4:32.45.


O'Dea's Joe and Danny Skovron ran personal best times of 4:37.42 and 4:37.75 to place third and fourth in the 1,600.


Ballard's Sam Gunsolus won the 800 in 2:09.85 beating O'Dea's Izzy Guayan, who ran 2:10.2 which is a personal best. Behind Guayan was his teammate Tagan Flaat, who placed third running 2:12.12.


Nathan Hale's lone winner came in the 3,200 with Sela Navot running a season best 10:10.65.


Ballard's Ermias Hagos and James Shepard were second and third in the 3,200 running 10:21.02 and 10:28.13.


What's Next? Ballard and O'Dea will be at the Birger Solberg Invite, Nathan Hale will be at the Arnie Young Invite, and a few athletes from Holy Names are traveling to the Arcadia Invite in California. All will take place this Saturday.
