Top 10 Male Underclassmen Distance Runners

As we say good-bye to all of the fellow seniors who finished their last season of high school track, we look into the future for the next top runners that will fill those shoes for the next year.

Here is a look at the top 10 male underclassmen distance runners from the 2019 track and field season.

1. Jonas Price - Eisenhower: What a talent this kid is from the Eastside of the mountains. Price is the No. 1 returning runner in the 1,600 and 3,200 in all classifications as he ran personal best times of 4:10.22 and 8:57.65. At the state meet, Price placed fourth in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200. He was also ranked fifth in the state for the 800 with a personal best time of 1:55.83.

2. Wil Smith - Lewis & Clark: A poor state track meet will not defy how good Lewis & Clark's Wil Smith is. With personal best times of 4:14.76 in the 1,600 and 9:07.01 in the 3,200, Smith was ranked among the top runners in the state for all classifications.

3. Brian Martinez - Tahoma: The fastest returning 800/1,600 meter duo runner looks to capture at least one state title next spring. Martinez was the runner-up in the 4A 800 final running a personal best time of 1:53.61. He also placed eighth in the 1,600 running another personal best time of 4:14.94.

T4. Brayden Packerd - West Valley (Yakima): Packard is the best youngster to make the top 10 after finishing an incredible sophomore campaign. Although he only qualified for one individual event at the state meet, he placed third in the 4A 800 final running a personal best 1:54.22. His 1,600 time was 4:17.14, a personal best time ran at the CBBN District meet.

T4. Jacob Easton - University: Easton is a triple threat runner when it comes to all three races. Placing seventh in the 1,600 at the 4A state meet, Easton looks to make it to the state meet next year in another event or two. His personal best times are 1:57.81, 4:14.56, and 9:21.12.

6. Sam Geiger - Camas: With Daniel Maton leaving for UW next year, Geiger has some big shoes to fill for next season as the top returner for the Papermakers. Geiger was eighth in the 800 and 11th in the 1,600 at the 4A state meet this spring. His personal best time are 1:55.94 and 4:15.12.

7. Luke Biondollio - Nathan Hale: Biondollio made a name for himself at the 3A state meet with outstanding performances. He ran personal best times of 1:55.07 and 4:20.02 to place sixth and seventh in the 800 and 1,600. A rare Seattle Public Schools kid to make the list here.

8. Eliason Kabasenche - Pullman: The lone triple crown distance winner on our list is the top returning 2A runner. An early season injury didn't keep Kabasenche from winning the 1,600 and 3,200 state crowns in personal best times of 4:18.39 and 9:09.2. Also a sub two minute 800 runner as he ran a personal best time of 1:59.96.

9. Cooper Cortinas - Walla Walla: An up and down season for Cortinas but managed to place sixth in the 1,600 at the 4A state meet running a personal best time of 4:12.8. A bounce back season is in the making however as he has run personal best times of 1:57.22 in the 800 and 9:24.89 in the 3,200 this past spring.

10. Cayan Dibble - Bonney Lake: The No. 1 returning 800 runner finished on a high note at the 3A state meet placing second in the event running a personal best time of 1:53.53. His 1,600 personal best time was 4:20.97, but he struggled towards the end of the season to get back down to that time. A big favorites in the 800 next for the 3A schools.
