Weekend Roundup: Emerging WV boys dominate Bellevue field

Highlights from invites during the weekend of Sept. 24.

Bellevue Invite

An emerging West Valley boys team continued their upward trend this season with another dominating performance last Saturday at the Bellevue Invite at Tyee Middle School in Bellevue.


Led by Caden Casteel, the Yakima harriers scored 30 points for a traditional scoring meet to take the boys title over Kamiakin, who scored 85 points. West Valley also beat Kamiakin in the Bellevue Invite scoring 15-48.


Casteel won the No. 1 and 2 runners race in a time of 15 minutes, 15.5 seconds, beating Eisenhower's Nathan Johnson's time of 15:22.1 over the 4,430 meter length course. Bodie Alderson was second for the Rams, finishing fourth overall in 15:36.7.


West Valley also came away with three more wins in the other varsity races. Max Hutton won the No. 3 and 4 runners race in 16:05.5, Emil Miller won the No. 5 and 6 runners race in 16:02 and Ethan Connell won the No. 7 and 8 runners race in 16:35.7.


Other top performers from the Rams include Elijah (16:15.6, 2nd) in the No. 5 and 6 race, Eli Roberts (16:23.3, 3rd) in the No. 3 and 4 race and Charlie Naught (16:42.1, 2nd) in the No. 7 and 8 race.


Ezra Teeples crossed the tape with the fastest time for Kamiakin in the No. 1 and 2 race, running 15:32.6 to place third overall in the field.


Ellensburg took third overall as a team with 128 points. Chase Perez was the Bulldogs top runner in the No. 1 and 2 race, running 16:16.6 to place seventh.


Roosevelt's Camden Jaureguy finished fifth in the No. 1 and 2 race in a time of 15:44.1 to lead the Roughriders to a fourth-place team finish with 128 points.


Two teams were determined winners in the girls meet based on both scoring methods. Lewis and Clark won the Bellevue Invite scoring portion 36-43 over Roosevelt, while Roosevelt won the traditional scoring 71-78 over Lewis and Clark.


Bridget Burns and Katie Lubbe went 1-2 for the Tigers, respectively, in the No. 1 and 2 race, running 18:11.3 and 18:11.9 to place third and fourth overall.


Ella Swanson was second in 19:08.4 in the No. 3 and 4 race and Ella Kizziar took fourth in 19:56.2 in the No. 5 and 6 race for LC.

Avery Williams ran 19:03.6 to place 11th in the No. 1 and 2 race as she led all Roosevelt runners.


Kate Fox won the No. 3 and 4 race for the Roughriders in 19:04.9, while Lucy Pew was third in the same race in 19:13.3.


Eisenhower took third in the traditional scoring with 110 points. Isabela Alvardo ran 18:04.2 to place second in the No. 1 and 2 race and Olive Clark trailed her fifth in 18:21 for the Cadets.


Bothell's Lauren Hoyt ran the fastest time of the day at 17:55.1, winning the No. 1 and 2 race.


Bob Firman Invite

The Seattle Prep boys traveled to Boise for the Bob Firman Invite at Eagle Island State Park to come away with a seventh-place finish in the elite field.


Jack Henzke ran a personal best 5k time of 15:49.3 to lead all Panthers runners as he placed 17th individually. Liam Riley cracked the top 30 for Seattle Prep, finishing 25th in a personal best time of 15:58.5.


North Central's Micaiah Aden was the Wolfpack's top runner in the elite race, finishing 107th in a personal best effort of 17:04.1.


Bush walked away with the team title in the boys division 2 race, beating Juan Diego Catholic (Utah) 160-200.


The Blazers had Duncan Frisbie-Smith finish 20th in 17:03.4 and Eric Coombs place 21st in 17:05.5.


The Bush girls were seventh in the division 2 race with 230 points. Kathryn Frazer was first for the Blazers, running 20:37.3 to place 19th.


King's Invite

Both King's squad came away with wins at their home invite at King's High School.


The boys won the varsity red race with 33 points to beat Issaquah by 20. Staser Simpson led the way placing third in a time of 17:00.81 for the three mile race.

The Knights also had Micah White place fourth in 17:07.12 and Luke Echelbarger finish eighth in 17:36.90 to help in scoring.


Northwest Christian's (Colbert) Ben Graham won the individual title over Northwest Christians (Lacey) Asher Ingram by a margin of 16:28.04-16:35.49.


The girls scored 31 points by also beating Issaquah by 10 points in the combined race. Sophia Inglin led the way for the Knights winning the girls race in 19:29.11. Rosella Gehr made the top 10 for King's, placing seventh in 22:39.38.


Madison Ingram of Northwest Christian (Lacey) was the runner-up in 19:48.43.


CAN-AM Invite

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) cruised to a 28-96 win over Shadle Park to claim the boys title at the CAN-AM Invite in Kettle Falls.


All seven of the Eagles varsity runners finished in the top 20. Hayden Blank finished second overall in 16:53 for the 5,000 meter race to lead Lakeside.


Chris Miller placed sixth in 17:39 and Derek Dunlop was seventh in 17:46 for Lakeside.


Freeman's Barrett Poulsen ran 16:39 to take the boys individual title.

Sadie Meyring finished third overall in the girls race, running 19:25 to lead Lakeside to a second-place team finish with 45 points. Post Falls won with 29 points as Annastasia Peters placed first in 18:04 and Kaylynn Misner finished second in 19:11.
