Full recap of invites and meets from the weekend of March 25, 2023.
ISSAQUAH - Tahoma's Brooke Lyons completed the sprint sweep at the Liberty Invite, winning the girls 100, 200 and 400-meter races at Liberty High School.
The Washington State University commit ran season best times of 12.26 and 25.36 in the 100 and 200 and a personal best time of 57.90 in the 400. Lyons ranks first in the state in both the 200 and 400 and second in the 100.
This is the third time in her career Lyons has completed the sprint sweep at a meet. The last two came last spring in a dual meet with Kentridge and at the Skipper's Elite Athlete - South Sound Classic.
Skyline's Anna Callahan continued her fast start of the season with another dominating performance in the girls 1,600, running a new personal best time of 4:45.29. The junior currently ranks fifth in the nation in the event, with Ventura CA's Sadie Englehart in first at 4:39.11.
The Spartans had another good run from Sydney Collier in the girls 3,200, running a first-place time of 11:07.34.
Liberty outperformed its competition on the boys side led by Jackson Moffitt in the 100 and 200 races. The sophomore ran 11.11 to win the 100, followed by a personal best effort of 22.10 to win the 200.
Juan Pablo Sanchez took home first-place honors in the 400, running 51.89, Ben Archer won the 800 in a season best 1:58.69 and Thomas Manson ran a personal best time of 4:26.22 to win the 1,600 for the Patriots.
Tahoma's Julia Stuard, eighth at 4A state in the 800, ran 2:20.11 to win the girls race.
Big 5 Invite
In a pre-state meet featuring three 3A and two 4A powerhouse programs, the Mt. Spokane boys and Walla Walla girls shined at the Big 5 Invite at Walla Walla High School.
Boden Gardner carried the Wildcats on the boys sides, picking up two individual wins in the 100 and 400 races. Gardner ran a personal best time of 11.42 to win the boys 100, followed by a season best performance in the 400 in a time of 51.01.
Bradley Runge won the boys 200 in a personal best time of 23.08 and finsihed third in the 400 in a season best time of 51.44.
Ben Sonneland ran 1:57.27 to win the boys 800, with teammate Kade Brownell following in fourth in a personal best time of 2:00.95. Brownell also ran a personal best time of 4:24.50 in the 1,600 to place third.
Parker Westermann ran a season best 9:42.33 to win the boys 3,200.
Walla Walla's Brody Hartley began his senior campaign with a season best time of 4:18.50 to win the boys 1,600. Arlington's Kellen Langford and Blake Wayman finished second and fourth, respectively, with Langford running 4:22.97 and Wayman running 4:24.53.
Jake Hisaw swept the boys hurdle races for the Blue Devils, running 15.59 in the 110s and a personal best time of 40.40 in the 300s.
Central Valley's Rodney Minette and Donte Jennings came away with personal best marks in their respective field events. Minette, third at 4A state shot put, threw a near three-foot PR of 57-05, while Jennings jumped 42-03 in triple jump.
Ashlyn Nielsen led the Walla Walla girls with two wins in the 100 and 200. Nielsen ran a season best 12.84 in the 100 to beat out Kamiakin's Adelyn Mitchell (12.86), then won the 200 in a personal best time of 25.97, also defeating Mitchell (26.44).
Walla Walla's Ava Nelson and Carly Martin each ran season best times to win their events, with Nelson taking the girls 400 in 1:01.84 and Martin taking the girls 800 in 2:27.91.
Central Valley's Nicole Bissell dipped below the 5-minute barrier in the 1,600 for the first time in her career, winning the girls race in a time of 4:59.89.
Mt. Spokane's Charlotte Pedersen won the girls 3,200 in a personal best effort of 11:16.52.
Kent-Meridian Invitational
Federal Way's Soukhanya Waters, Auburn Riverside's Julia Couch and Bonney Lake's Latham West won a pair of races at the Kent-Meridian Invitational at French Field in Kent.
Waters won her third and fourth races of the season, winning the girls 100 in 12.65 and the 200 in a personal best time of 25.95. Waters also anchored the Eagles 4x200 to victory in 1:50.05, teaming with Jalyla Williams, Karma Walker and Kira Angel Marshall.
Couch, defending 3A state champion in the 800, won with a season best performance of 2:17.61, in addition to winning the girls 400 in a personal best time of 59.96.
West, 13th at 3A state cross country, broke 11 minutes in the girls 3,200 for the first time in her career, running 10:56.75, and won the 1,600 in a 5:11.52.
Katherine Yahn and Mary Jane Harig finished second and third, respectively, in the 3,200 for the Issaquah girls, running 11:05.46 and 11:08.10.
Federal Way's Cassandra Atkins jumped 39-00.75, just a foot off her PR from indoor, to win the girls triple jump.
Eastlake's Connor Hom and Ethan Pedersen each won a distance race for the Wolves on the boys side, with Hom prevailing in the 1,600 in a season best time of 4:21.92 and Pedersen prevailing in the 3,200 in a season best time of 9:29.23.
Issaquah's Connor and Brennen Rickey both finished second in their respective distance races, with Connor running 4:22.89 in the 1,600 and Brennen running 9:32.55 in the 3,200.
Kentridge's Alex Conner won the boys 110 hurdles in a personal best time of 15.31 and followed it with a win in the 300 hurdles in a time of 40.21. Kentridge's Jonah Tongco took second in the 110s in a time of 15.57.
Bellevue Christian's Brett Olson, second at 1A state in shot put, threw 50-05 for first place and won the boys discus with a personal best mark of 149-08.
Curtis Viking Relays
LeRoy Horton ran a personal best time in the boys 100 for the second consecutive meet at the Curtis Viking Relays at Curtis High School.
Three days after running 10.67 in a dual versus Puyallup, Horton ran 10.58 on his home track to win the 100 over Lincoln's (Tacoma) Jonathan Frazier, who ran a personal best 10.87. Horton's time ranks second in the state.
Horton, along with Titus Morris, Cinque Maxwell and Andrew Shirley, led the Vikings to a school record performance in the boys 4x100 in a time of 41.83, which ranks first in the state.
Morris and Shirley also won individual events, with Morris winning the boys long jump in 22-00 and Shirley winning the boys pole vault in a personal best clearance of 15-00.
Curtis' Lenice Walston won the girls 100 over Tumwater's Ava Jones by a margin of 12.50-12.60. Eliza White won the girls 1,600 for the Vikings in a season best 5:10.20.
Lincoln's (Tacoma) Pray'Cesslily Kamuta threw a personal best mark of 40-02.50 to win the girls shot put by over five feet.
