A look back at invite highlights of the weekend of April 16, 2022, in high school track.
It's one thing to win two sprint events at an invite, but to come away winning all three major events in a field full of high caliber athletes is no easy task.
Tahoma's Brooke Lyons set the tone at the Skipper's Elite Athlete - South Sound Classic on Saturday at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup, picking up wins in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter races to complete the rare sprint triple crown.
Starting in the 100, Lyons crossed the finish line in a new personal best time of 12.18 seconds, putting her third in Washington this season. Then she ran another personal best minutes later in the 400 running 58.44 to edge out Curtis' Ava Simms (58.52). To wrap up the day, Lyons cruised through the 200 in 26.01 beating Emerald Ridge's JaiCieonna Gero-Holt (26.43), completing the trifecta.
Lyons now ranks top seven in Washington in all three events this season after this past weekend.
Olympia's Ethan Coleman swept both the boy's 1,600 and 3,200 races just a week after finishing top 10 at the Arcadia Invite in the 3,200 invite section. He ran 4:13.89 to kick things off in the 1,600, and then ran 8:56.94 to finish the day in the 3,200.
Other notable performances from those races included Emerald Ridge's Conner Wirth breaking the Jaguars' school record 1,600 time running 4:18.30, and Arlington's Aiden Emerson breaking 9-minutes for the first time in his career running 8:59.66.
Curtis' Eliza White ran a personal best time of 10:42.27 in the girl's 3,200, winning by 35 seconds. Tahoma's Sara Sanders took the girl's 1,600 in 5:08.92, beating out South Kitsap's Lauren Laws personal best time of 5:09.81.
Emerald Ridge's Asher Ogden got the win in the boy's 110 hurdles running 14.83, while Gero-Holt won the girl's 100 hurdles in 14.80. Gero-Holt also tied the national freshmen record in the high jump clearing 6 feet, three-quarters inches.
Arlington's Parker Duskin ran PRs in both the 110 and 300 hurdles as he ran 14.87 in the 110s to place second and then 40.53 to win the 300s. South Kitsap's Ella Hopper won the girl's 300 hurdles by over 1.5 seconds in a personal best 46.10.
Yelm's Ryan Lange ran 2:00.51 edging out Lakes' William Ryan IV in the boy's 800. Olympia's Katelyn Rigg won her fourth 800 race of the season winning in a time of 2:22.92.
Capital's Sean Jackson ran personal best time of 49.92 to win the boy's 400. Gig Harbor's Ben Stevens won the boy's 200 in 22.96, and Puyallup's Micah Bach won the boy's 100 in a personal best 10.93.
Lil Norway Invite
Sequim's own Riley Pyeatt and Adrian Brown won a pair of races in their respective events at the Lil Norway Invite at North Kitsap Stadium. Pyeatt won the girl's 100 in 13.51 and then ran a season best 59.68 to win the 400. Brown won both the boy's 110 and 300 hurdle races in 16.63 and a personal best 42.27.
Lynden also saw two of its own on the boy's side picking up wins in the sprint races, as Porter Wilhite won the 400 in a personal best 50.33 and Troy Petz won the 100 in a personal best 11.31.
Host North Kitsap picked up wins in both the 200 and 800 races on the boy's and girl's sides. Logan Sloman won the boy's 200 in 23.41, while Lillian Purden won the girl's 200 in 27.61. Alec Ibarra took the boy's 800 in 2:04.93, and Salix Wartes-Kahl won the girl's 800 in 2:25.42.
Port Angeles' Jack Gladfleter ran a personal best 4:34.89 to win the boy's 1,600. Bainbridge's Eden Michael cruised to win the girl's 1,600 in a personal best 5:21.24.
Central Kitsap swept the 3,200 races with Blake Reynolds taking the boy's race in 9:42.51 and Eva Huff winning the girl's race in 12:08.27, beating out teammate Jacqueline Conger (12:08.51).
In the girl's hurdle races, Port Townsend's Stephanie Sanchez won the 100s in a personal best 17.58, and Bainbridge's Claire Hungerford won the 300s in a personal best 49.31.
Cashmere Invite
King's' Will Culberson and Okanogan's Afton Wood ran lifetime bests in both hurdle races, picking up two wins each at the Cashmere Invite at Cashmere High School.
Culberson ran 16.09 and 41.19 to win the boy's 110 and 300 hurdle races, and Wood ran away with wins in the girl's 100 and 300 hurdle races running 17.30 and 48.50.
King's also picked up wins from Hiroto Nasu in the boy's 1,500 (4:22.99) and Lincoln Going in the boy's 400 (50.80).
Cascade Christian's Kennedy Johnson won both the girl's 100 and 200 races in season best performances of 12.98 and 27.07. Toppenish's Jose Torres won the boy's 100 in a personal best 11.56, while Meridian's Jase Klinkhammer won the boy's 200 in a personal best 23.42.
Host Cashmere picked up one win on the track from Kaitlyn Bjorklund in the girl's 400 as she ran a personal best 61.62.
In other distance races, Tonasket's Carter Timm won the boy's 800 in a personal best 2:07.78, while Cascade's (Leavenworth) Lauren Muscott won the girl's 800 in 2:19.33.
Meridian picked up two wins as 1A state cross country runner-up Kayla Aalpoel won the girl's 1,500 in 4:53.30, and Gary Rempp won the boy's 3,000 in 9:49.98.
Liberty Bell's Leki Albright edged out Naches Valley's Brooke Miles for the girl's 3,000 title running 10:50.07.
Van Kuren Invite
East Valley's (Spokane) Logan Hofstee adds two more wins under her belt this season winning both the girl's 1,600 and 3,200 races in 5:23.95 and 11:24.41 at the Van Kuren Invite at Cheney High School.
Odessa's Hayden Schuh took care of business in the girl's 100 and 300 hurdle races running a season best 17.13 and a personal best 48.58 to win both races.
Braxton Hinton of host Cheney won both the boy's 100 and 200 race in 11.59 and a personal best 22.52.
Central Valley's Colin Wright ran a personal best 53.51 to win the boy's 400, while Fiona Hart won the girl's 200 in a personal best 26.53.
Garfield-Palouse's Kennedy Cook won the girl's 400 by almost two seconds as she ran 62.93. Ridgeline's Preslie Young ran 13.18 to win the girl's 100.
Mead's Jonathan Lieb was Washington's lone boy's winner in the distance races as he won the 800 in 2:02.92.
