Hazelton, ID - Raft River's Kaybree and Karlee Christensen blew away the competition in the girl's race finishing first and second at the Valley High School Invite in Hazelton on September 2, 2020.
Kaybree, who was sixth last week at the Terry Jones Invite, took first running a time of 20:47.7 for the 5,000-meter race, and her sister Karlee, who was third at the same invite last week, was second running a time of 21:21.2.
Last season, both Christensen's were top three finishers at the IHSAA 1A State Cross Country Championships with Kaybree placing second and Karlee placing third.
Sugar-Salem's Jaresa Jackson, last year's runner-up at the IHSAA 3A State Cross Country Championships, was third overall for the Diggers running 22:04, followed by her teammates Ryley Klingler (4th, 22:11.3), Ethnie Hamblin (7th, 23:26.7), and Brooklyn Smith (10th, 24:00.1).
Other top performers were Kimberly's Lucy Whitney (5th, 22:50.4), Oakley's Emree Larson (6th, 23:21.7), Rockland's Kamber Smith (8th, 23:37), and Rimrock's Ella Boren (9th, 23:40.6).
In the team standings, Sugar-Salem won with 31 points, followed by Oakley in second with 63 points and Kimberly in third with 77 points.
On the boy's side, Valley's Garrett Christensen won his second race of the season in a time of 17:43.8 while leading the Vikings to a second place team finish with 60 points. Christensen was fourth last fall at the ISHAA 2A State Cross Country Championships.
Also from Valley finishing in the top half was Kyle Christensen, who was seventh at the 2A state meet, placing fourth running 18:30.6 and Tex Godfrey placing eighth running 19:08.8.
Sugar-Salem's Brigham Dalling, who was 10th last fall at the ISHAA 3A State Cross Country Championships, was second running a time of 17:59.6 and led the Diggers to a first place team finish scoring 33 points. Tanner Baggett (5th, 18:56.7), Parker Dupree (6th, 18:58.8), and Teagan Dalling (7th, 19:05) were among other top scorers for the Diggers.
Kade Orr of Buhl rounded out the top 10 running a time of 19:15.3 and the Indians were third as a team scoring 81 points. Richfield's Clay Kent was among other top 10 finishers with his ninth place finish running 19:12.
