Olympia Kickoffs 2019 Season With Wins Over Puyallup, Graham-Kapowsin

OLYMPIA - A great start to the season for both the boys and girls programs at Olympia as the Bears defeat South Puget Sound League opponents, Puyallup and Graham-Kapowsin, in a tri-meet on Tuesday, September 10, held at Olympia High School.

Connor Griffith of Olympia won the boy's 5,000 meter race in a time of 17:58 helping his team to a six point victory over Puyallup, 25-31. Ethan Coleman and Max Barnes were second and third overall for the Bears running times of 18:09 and 18:30.


George Merrifield was eighth as he was the final Bear in the top 10 running a time of 19:01.


Puyallup's top runner, Alec Bledsoe, finished in fourth running 18:49. Nathaniel Joosten (18:49), Nate Herrick (18:53), and Samuel Zielke (19:00) followed Bledsoe in the fifth through eighth placings in this order.


Jed Wright led Graham-Kapowsin with a 12th place finish in a time of 19:29.


On the girl's side, Olympia defeated Puyallup as well by a score of 26-34. Ellie Glock was second overall and the Bears top runner running a time of 22:41. Teammates Abby Burtner (22:41) and Anna Dragt (22:56) were third and fourth.


Winning the girl's race was the Vikings' Veronica Caldwall as she ran 22:28. Also from Puyallup placing well was Phoebe Sacksteder coming in fifth place running 23:30.


Graham-Kapowsin's Isabelle Teague finished in sixth running a time of 24:07.


What's Next?


Olympia will be at the 26th Annual Capital Invite and Puyallup and Graham will be at the 21st Bellarmine Invite this coming Saturday.
